SkyBridge Capital managing partner Anthony Scaramucci has spoken of the betrayal he felt at the actions of FTX founder Sam Bankman-Fried, whom he said he once considered a friend.

Speaking at the Casper Labs Blockchain Hub event in Davos, Switzerland on January 16, Scaramucci pointed out that in the aftermath of the FTX debacle, he felt betrayed by Bankman-Fried given that he maintained a close friendship with him and his family.

I have to tell you that betrayal and cheating is bad on a lot of different levels, it certainly damaged my reputation, but I’m just talking about the visceral relationship with someone, he said. said, adding that:

If anyone here has read Dante Alighieris Inferno, you know what the Ninth Circle of Hell is all about. […] It’s for the betrayal of a friend who lives with the devil in the ninth circle of hell on the frozen lake. Anthony Scaramucci speaking Casper Labs Blockchain Hub: YouTube

Explaining his relationship with Bankman-Fried in more detail, Scaramucci finally admitted that he bet on someone he trusted and was wrong.

I’m a high level person, so my mistakes are greatly magnified, [thats] totally fine but I’m not going to stop risk taking, he said, adding: “I thought Sam was the Mark Zuckerberg of crypto, I didn’t think he was the Bernie Madoff of crypto. crypto.”

However, the SkyBridge founder was undeterred by the whole ordeal, as he pointed out that he made a career out of taking risks, and as such, hell probably would have made that mistake again.

Likewise, Scaramucci’s faith in crypto was also unshaken, as he pointed out that FTX’s bankruptcy had nothing to do with the technology’s underlying value proposition.

“That’s why we have blockchain and crypto, because we’re trying to create a decentralized situation where we don’t have to like or trust each other. […] We can transact with each other in a way that technology fundamentally sanctifies.”

As Scaramucci mentioned to CNBC on Jan. 13, SkyBridge is currently working to buy back a 30% stake in the company it sold to FTX for an undisclosed amount in September.

Notably, the deal took place just two months before FTX filed for bankruptcy. Sarmucci said once all the legal details are sorted out, the takeover could take place before the second half of this year.

Once this takeover is complete, Sarmucci will still have loose ties to FTX via an investment he made in a crypto company founded by former FTX US Chairman Brett Harrison. He confirmed the move to Bloomberg via email this week.

At this latest Blockchain Hub event, Scaramucci emphasized the importance of supporting and supporting friends like Harrison who are going through a tough time due to his affiliation with FTX.

Harrison has of course distanced himself from the antics of SBF and those around him, and notably resigned from the company in September.
