In this crypto winter, we are starting to see the first signs of what could be a slight warming in the bear market with Bitcoin crossing BTC/USD and holding around $21,000.
This is good news for MicroStrategy co-founder Michael Saylor, who is known as one of the largest corporate investors in Bitcoin with over 132,500 BTC as of December 2022. He is said to personally own over 17,000 BTC.
I looked around the world and thought that Bitcoiners and maximalists and those who are optimistic about the future of humanity and entrepreneurs, and everyone who struggles to create something beautiful on this Earth, that offers the prospect of personal sovereignty, and long-term value,” Saylor said. “I thought they were the right people. Saylor says he supports Bitcoin because it benefits the ideas of personal sovereignty and financial freedom that he feels are worth fighting for.
You must choose your battles. So I decided I was going to do this thing. I have a lot of stuff,” he said. “Seven yachts, six houses and five jets. I don’t need anything else. But there’s one thing you need, and that’s you need a reason to live. I don’t feel proud to win if I win the wrong way.
Saylor’s continued dedication to holding Bitcoin contrasts with billionaire investor Peter Thiel whose Founder’s Fund sold off most of its crypto holdings before the downturn, which drew criticism from the crypto community.
Recently, Bitcoin, Ethereum ETH/USD and Dogecoin DOGE/USD have all made significant gains, although analysts have warned that we should not take these moves as a sign that the bear market is over. They pointed to the bankruptcy of Genesis and fears of a recession as possible sources of risk.
