Bitcoin, Ether rises; Solana is the biggest winner in the top 10

Bitcoin and Ether gained Monday afternoon in Asia, along with all 10 other major non-stable cryptocurrencies. Solana posted the biggest gain among the top 10, followed by Polygon and Shiba Inu.

Bitcoin traded up 1.87% to hit US$21,121 in the past 24 hours as of 4 p.m. in Hong Kong, up 22.72% in the past calendar week, according to data. data from CoinMarketCap. Bitcoin briefly rose to US$21,345 in the morning. Ether gained 2.52% to US$1,566, up 19.46% in the past seven days.

Solana is up 8% to hit US$24.27, with a 48% gain since the start of the week. Solana has jumped over 140% since the new year following the launch of Bonk, a Solana-focused dog-themed memecoin. Bonk aims to help the Solana community bounce back from its involvement with FTX and Alameda Research, Bybit explained.

Polygon MATIC traded up 4.91% to US$1.02, strengthening 18.46% over the past week.

On January 6, it was reported that Polygon had paid popular non-fungible token (NFT) projects Y00ts and DeGods to migrate to the Polygon blockchain from Solana. On the same day, Polygon announced that Mastercard was launching a new program on Polygon that will help music artists use blockchain technology.

Shiba Inu also traded 5.95% higher, in a week of 21.87% price growth.

Asian stock markets were mixed on Monday. Hong Kong’s Hang Seng Index closed down 0.11% and the Shanghai Composite Index gained 1.01%. The Japanese Nikkei 225 fell 1.14%.

The December CPI in the United States fell 7.1% in November and marked the smallest annual increase since October 2021. As the key inflation indicator points to a slowdown in US inflation, the President Fed chief Jerome Powell has warned of further rate hikes in 2023, with the next Federal Reserve meeting scheduled for January 31-February 1.

China’s exports fell 9.9% in December from a year ago, while imports fell 7.5%, both data slightly better than the Reuters poll, according to the country’s customs data published on Friday.
