On January 24, the National Law Journal quoted Coy Garrison in its article, “Reining In Cryptocurrencies Amid Growing Market Risks.” The article discusses current rules surrounding cryptocurrency and law firm responses to clients. Capitol Hill lawmakers have gone above and beyond to try to understand the crypto challenge and come up with solutions that work for both regulators and consumers. Additionally, law firms are receiving an increase in calls from retail investors to institutional investors.
Regarding the SEC’s approach to cryptocurrency regulation, Garrison said, “The SEC has misplaced its priorities when it comes to the crypto industry. [The agency] led with an application-heavy approach, [rather than through defining a rule-making process]Garrison further observed, “Congress must step in and provide clear direction on the relevant agency or agencies and how they should work together.”
