Data from Santiment shows that Polkadot was the number 1 cryptocurrency in the market over the past month based on development activity.
Polkadot has seen the most development activity in the last 30 days
According to data from on-chain analytics firm Santiment, Polkadot (DOT), Kusama (KSM) and Cardano (ADA) make up the top three in the list of development activities. “Development activity” here is a metric measured using the work done by developers of any project on its public GitHub repositories.
This work is evaluated in quantities of “events”, where an event refers to actions such as pushing a commit, creating an issue, forking the repository, creating a pull request, and several others.
Some other versions of this metric typically only use the total number of commits to the GitHub project as a way to measure development activity. However, this method may not be entirely accurate; the reason behind this is that whenever someone forks a project (a “fork” basically refers to a copy of the code), all commits from the original project are also inherited by that fork.
As the developer who created the fork would not have been responsible for the work done by the original team, a simple count of the total number of commits would produce a false picture of the activity of this new developer.
Since Santiment’s metric instead uses events to measure activity, forks are counted as a single new event, and thus the work of the developer is more accurately represented.
Now, here is a table that shows the top 10 cryptocurrencies in the industry ranked according to their respective development activities:

As seen in the table above, Polkadot has been the cryptocurrency that has seen the most development activity over the past 30 days. Kusama is also tied with DOT for the top spot as the indicator value was 441.5 for both coins during this period.
Cardano topped the list a month ago, but it looks like the project has slowed down a bit this month as it has now fallen to third place.
Previously, Ethereum was sixth on the table, but the second-largest crypto by market capitalization is now in ninth place, implying that ETH developers have also done less work this month on the public repository.
The importance of development activity is that it can provide a clue as to whether there is a strong commitment behind a project or not.
Cryptocurrency projects that experience high activity can mean that they are constantly being updated and receiving new futures, which can attract users to the network and thus help lay the foundation for a long-term future. . Currently, it seems that Polkadot is the project that receives the most attention from its developers.
