Attackers hacked into the social media accounts of leading US e-commerce platform Robinhood to promote a scam token. Binance CEO Changpeng Zhao was quick to say that the account related to the incident had been locked.

On Wednesday, the platform’s official Twitter account, RobinhoodApp, issued a “reminder” to its 1.1 million followers that it was launching the RHB token on Binance Smart Chain, offering users to buy coins for 0, $0005 each. It included a link to the PancakeSwap platform, where the token is listed.

Although Robinhood didn’t post anything about the hack on his own account, he admitted to it in a comments section of another person’s post, saying Twitter wasn’t the only account affected and writing:

“We are aware of unauthorized posts from Robinhood’s Twitter, Instagram and Facebook profiles, all of which were removed within minutes. At this time, based on our ongoing investigation, we believe the source of the incident originated from a third-party provider.

The original post has since been deleted, but it is still available via an archive.org snapshot, and many users had taken screenshots before the company deleted the post.

And that was not the end: since Binance and its blockchain had been mentioned in this incident, the exchange’s CEO, Zhao, known as CZ, said that the account in question had been locked and that an investigation was underway.

CZ added:

“Always think critically even if the story looks or is real.”

Meanwhile, Conor Grogan, head of commodity trading operations at leading crypto exchange Coinbase, reported that around 10 people had purchased around $1,000 of the token before the tweet was deleted.
