Copper.co has appointed Philip Hammond as chairman of the board of the UK-based provider of institutional digital asset custody and trading solutions.

Former member of the UK House of Lords, Lord Hammond of Runnymede, served as Chancellor of the Exchequer from 2016 to 2019, Foreign Secretary from 2014 to 2016, Defense Secretary from 2011 to 2014 and Transport Secretary (2010-11).

After a distinguished career in British politics as an MP since 1997, he resigned as MP for Runnymede and Weybridge in November 2019 and resumed his career in business.

The British politician has been at the forefront of promoting the UK as a global leader in digital asset technology and has publicly advocated for the need to connect traditional finance with ledger technology distributed assets and to reform the UK regulatory framework governing digital assets.
