British multinational bank HSBC has posted a job advertisement seeking a senior executive to work with asset tokenization. The bank, which manages the largest number of assets in Europe, opened the application process for a tokenization product manager on Monday.

The job description involves designing and implementing an overall tokenization proposal, delivering a tokenization use case program that satisfies business risk parameters, engaging with parties stakeholders to drive digital asset education and successful delivery of tokenization proposals, and represent HSBC to regulators and customers.

A qualified candidate would possess knowledge of digital assets, specifically asset tokenization and custody, with “in-depth knowledge” of the industry and major geographic wealth markets, the job posting states.

This new job posting comes as crypto-related business for HSBC has increased in recent months. In December, the company filed with the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) for rights to its name and logo in the Metaverse. The applications listed a variety of plans for services such as NFT-backed digital media, virtual currency exchange and transfer, and virtual credit card processing.

The bank also seeks to provide financial advisory services in the metaverse and create virtual environments that users can use to interact for recreation, leisure or entertainment.

And on Wednesday, HSBC took part in a project with the European Investment Bank (EIB) that saw the launch of the first-ever sterling-denominated digital bond using blockchain technology. The company’s “HSBC Orion” tokenization platform was used in the creation of the bonds, and HSBC will serve as the central custodian and record transactions in the digital bond on the HSBC Orion platform.

HSBC also participated in the Federal Reserve Bank of New York’s 12-week proof-of-concept CBDC pilot project and is one of 14 central and commercial banks working with SWIFT to test transactions with CBDCs and tokenized assets on existing financial infrastructure.

eBay goes on a crypto hiring spree

A report from Coindesk says leading e-commerce site eBay is currently in the market for several Web3 aficionados who can help grow its KnownOrigin platform, an NFT marketplace that was acquired by the company in June.
