As part of Coinbase’s fourth quarter earnings release, CEO Brian Armstrong commented on the engineering workspace within crypto. Although the company itself appears to have a hiring freeze, Armstrong is optimistic about talented engineers, who he says are as enthusiastic about crypto as ever.

“There are a lot of developers operating in this space,” he said yesterday, noting that engineers working on crypto have doubled over the past year. “It continues to increase.” Armstrong says if the “brightest young engineers” are interested in something, it must be promising.

Similarly, within Coinbase itself, he maintained that engineers “are really passionate about the mission.”

The crypto winter can even be positive. “You come to appreciate downcycles, because there’s less noise and all the people who were there for the wrong reasons are gone,” Armstrong reflects.

If you want to position yourself for the future, Armstrong says, “Decentralized identity is exciting. It allows crypto to go beyond just a new kind of money, to a new kind of platform. of application”.

One of the early players in this space is JPMorgan, which has started hiring for a new crypto lab in Athens that, among other things, deals with “powerful blockchain-based digital identity mobile apps.”
