Today is a bittersweet day. This month we turned nine; and while i’m excited and proud that we’ve come this far, i’m also very sad. Today, Bittrex begins the process of closing its operations in the United States. Don’t worry, all customer funds are safe and can be withdrawn; however, it is simply not economically viable for us to continue to operate in the current US regulatory and economic environment.

Back in 2013, when the three of us built Bittrex, it was all about technology. Taking emerging cryptographic technology and enhancing it with our extensive enterprise software experience and security knowledge. We built technology that was ahead of everyone at the time. Full-service API. Near-instantaneous atomic transactions. Portfolio infrastructure, managing more portfolios than anyone. Offline cold wallet solutions. We have never lost funds or been hacked. It was technology, simple and elegant. We said we would be the safest and fairest trading platform while treating our customers fairly. No hidden offers. No special treatment. We never took any shortcuts.

Nine years later, the crypto ecosystem is very different. Regulatory requirements are often unclear and enforced without proper discussion or input, resulting in an uneven competitive landscape.

Ultimately, we have made great strides towards achieving our goal of maturing the crypto space. However, operating in the US is no longer feasible and Bill, Rami and I will focus on helping Bittrex Global succeed outside of the US.

As I mentioned above, all customer funds are safe here and ready to be picked up (for users with met KYC requirements). We will allow transactions until April 14, 2023 and you must withdraw all of your funds by April 30, 2023. I have really enjoyed being part of this revolution and will continue to be involved in this space. Thank you to all Bittrex users over the years who have made us who we are.
