Tran Dinh: Crypto trader flees Australia after alleged kidnapping and torture of Peter Vuong

A cryptocurrency trader fled Australia days after the alleged brutal kidnapping and torture of an associate, according to reports.

Tran Dinh is believed to have been the target of the alleged brutal attack on Peter Vuong last month, who was held in a western Sydney home for several days where his teeth were pulled out with a hammer and pliers and a gun stuck in his throat, according to police.

The 29-year-old was allegedly caught on camera begging for help in footage later sent to Mr Dinh during a $5million ransom demand.

Police sources told The Daily Telegraph that Mr Dinh became concerned about another attempted shooting and left shortly after Mr Vuong was rescued in a dramatic police operation in Belmore.

“(Mr. Dinh) left the city a few days later and headed abroad, and who can blame him,” a police source told the newspaper.

It comes after police arrested a 21-year-old state government employee in a parking lot in Bunnings this week in connection with the incident.

Sira Elkheir allegedly used her role at Service NSW to gain access to personal information that was shared with others for criminal purposes.

Ms Elkheir, from Yagoona in western Sydney, allegedly used her work computer on February 20 to look up the address and license details of Mr Dinh, his wife and the father of Mr Vuong, who, according to the police, were then provided to the kidnappers.

She was arrested by NSW Police detectives in the parking lot of the Bunnings store in Greenacre on Wednesday and charged with one count each of corporate taking/detention with intent to ransom (occasion of actual bodily harm), participation to a criminal group, restricted access/modification and cause unauthorized computer function with the intent to commit a serious criminal act.

Ms Elkheir appeared in Burwood Local Court on Thursday, where she was granted a strict conditional bond.

Police will allege the kidnappers first attacked Mr Vuong in the driveway of his home in Smithfield on March 1, leaving him seriously injured.

They then reportedly returned on March 9 and forced their way inside, dragging him out of bed and into a van before taking him to the Canterbury Road property in Belmore.

He was held there for nearly a week and subjected to an extreme level of violence, Detective Superintendent Joe Doueihi told reporters last month.

“The man had been tied up, tied up, had his face covered, suffered numerous injuries, facial injuries and had his teeth forcibly pulled out,” he said.

“Guns were used, maces were used, the man was tortured.”

On Tuesday, March 14, dozens of heavily armed police and tactical officers stormed the property using flash grenades in a dramatic operation.

Mr Vuong was located inside the house and examined by paramedics before being taken to hospital for treatment.

Six men – aged 19, 20 and 21 – have been arrested and charged for their alleged role in the incident. They remain in court.
