BitBoy Crypto Intentionally Misses Court Appearance to Face Harassment Allegations

Ben Armstrong, also known as BitBoy Crypto, has missed a court appearance ordered by a federal justice of the peace in response to YouTubers’ alleged harassment of an attorney in a lawsuit involving multiple crypto influencers.

Judge Melissa Damian had ordered Armstrong and his attorney to appear April 20 to address the YouTubers’ harassment of the plaintiffs’ attorney. However, Armstrong openly mocked the order on social media, instead tweeting pictures of himself on a beach in the Bahamas.

According to various reports, Judge Damian warned Armstrong’s attorney who was present, as ordered that she would issue a warrant for the YouTubers’ arrest if he did not appear by April 24. The harassment case against Armstrong moved forward without him, the judge would have referred the case to the FBI.

Those affected by FTX’s collapse filed a class action lawsuit against Armstrong and several other YouTubers in March for allegedly encouraging fraud through the exchange without disclosing compensation. Moskowitz, the lead attorney representing the plaintiffs in the case, said Armstrong harassed the legal team with endless phone calls, tweets and emails, vulgar voicemails and posts about social networks suggesting threats.

Amid legal proceedings on April 20, the YouTuber continued to poke fun at the harassment case and Moskowitz. However, he said he did not fly near the headquarters of [his] pants, hinting that his absence from court may have been on the advice of a lawyer. He is said to have offered, through a lawyer, to appear before the judge in May.

As part of the judges’ April 20 order, Armstrong would not be allowed to tweet about Moskowitz and the plaintiffs in the case. He previously compared the lawyer to an ambulance chaser and a pig in addition to largely dismissing the basis of the lawsuit. Cointelegraph has reached out to Moskowitz for comment, but has not received a response as of press time.

A crypto influencer with over a million Twitter followers and 1.4 million YouTube subscribers, Armstrong is no stranger to controversy online. He insulted high-profile figures, including European Central Bank President Christine Lagarde and United States Securities and Exchange Commission Chairman Gary Gensler, in addition to others affecting politics in the space.
