Chinese officials have drafted proposed protocols on how to handle crypto-related financial lawsuits. The country remains concerned about the risks of crypto.
It looks like China is working more on cracking the crypto market, with journalist Wu Blockchain posting a new draft for cryptocurrency trials. Local media first reported on the new project, with the meeting that discussed the project focusing on policies and measures that would allow financial trials.
The project opens by stating that the trading hype activities of bitcoin, ethereum, usdt and other virtual currencies have severely disrupted the economic and financial order and seriously jeopardized the security of people’s property. China has repeatedly made similar statements, and the new draft is an attempt to counter what it sees as risky activities.
Specifically, the proposal concerns the validity of legal acts related to cryptocurrencies. It indicates that crypto assets have certain network virtual property attributes.
If the crypto is used to settle debts, the court would recognize it as valid. However, if investment contracts were entered into after September 4, 2017, they would be recognized as invalid. When it comes to crypto mining, any related contract after the mining ban was introduced would be recognized as invalid.
Hong Kong Courts Chinese Crypto Firms
As China has doubled down on its crackdown on crypto, Hong Kong has strived to become more of a financial hub. Part of his strategy is becoming more accommodating to crypto businesses. The region has taken steps to welcome Chinese crypto companies.
The Hong Kong government has also said it will strive to become an international center for virtual assets, with web3 and other sectors at the center of its concerns. Another major change is the fact that banks have been asked to provide services to crypto businesses in Hong Kong.
Despite China’s crypto ban, companies have found ways to operate. The country is currently debating how to handle cryptocurrencies. It may take some time before effective laws can be put in place.
Crypto mining still highly scrutinized
China has been effective in banning crypto mining. However, there have been clandestine activities despite the ban. Authorities have raided these locations, while North America is seeing a large influx as miners migrate to other locations.
China also fined Bitmain for tax violations, in another step to show it is serious about the rules. Still, its metaverse industry is thriving, with officials optimistic about its potential.
