Bitcoin can bring ’cause and consequence into cyberspace’, boost security Michael Saylor

Bitcoin may be the answer to combat cybersecurity threats caused by artificial intelligence, such as deepfake, said Michael Saylor, executive chairman of MicroStrategy, in a recent interview with Kitco News.

Saylor illustrated his point using bot-created social media accounts as an example. According to him, billions of fake accounts are causing a digital “civil war” in today’s society, stoking hatred among real users of digital platforms.

“The risk in cyberspace is that I can create a billion fake people, and I can create a civil war by making fake Republicans hate fake Democrats or real Democrats. Make fake Democrats hate real Republicans” , the tech lead said when discussing how artificial intelligence and other next-gen technologies will make deepfake cheaper and harder to detect.

According to Saylor, who has more than 3 million followers on Twitter, he receives nearly 2,000 fake followers every day. “I literally saw in the space of an hour, 1500 bot accounts were deleted from my account, and they were bots. So we can’t live with this status quo anymore,” he said. he continued. The executive believes that the solution to deepfake and other digital trust issues lies in decentralized identities (DIDs).

A decentralized identity is an autonomous and independent identity that allows reliable data exchange. In other words, it is a means of verifying and controlling an online identity and personal information.

“If someone wants to run a billion Twitter bots, it’s going to cost them a billion transactions. […]. By combining the power of crypto with the power of a decentralized crypto network like Bitcoin, we can bring costs and consequences into cyberspace,” he explained.

Saylor’s Microstrategy is one of the companies working on crypto signatures for social users and enterprise solutions. Open AI CEO Sam Altman is also developing proof-of-personality technology with his crypto project, Worldcoin. To create decentralized ID tools, the company closed a $115 million fundraising round last week.

Similarly, layer 2 protocol Polygon launched a decentralized identity solution in March. Powered by zero-knowledge proofs (ZK proofs), it uses cryptographic techniques to allow users to verify their identity online without their sensitive information being transmitted or potentially stored with a third party. The product was released almost a year after announcing its development.
