JAN3 CEO Samson Mow claimed that El Salvador could serve as a “beachhead” in the battle for global Bitcoin (BTC) adoption – and suggested that other LATAM countries could “easily” follow the example of the country.
El Salvador adopted BTC as legal tender in 2021, under the leadership of its Bitcoin-savvy president, Nayib Bukele.
In an interview with Swan, Mow conceded:
“There is no easy way to attract a million people to Bitcoin.”
But he said:
“[People] definitely watch El Salvador.
He said the nation was a “beacon we can point to” that “opens the door to things we can do in other countries.”
Could other nations also adopt Bitcoin as legal tender?
The CEO suggested that other countries might seek to follow suit with El Salvador and named Guatemala as one such nation.
Mow said Guatemala “could adopt Bitcoin in an instant” due to the fact that its legal system allows the use of foreign currency as a form of payment.
The JAN3 boss spoke of El Salvador as an anchor for Bitcoin recognition, but admitted that Bitcoiners “still need more countries to adopt” the coin.
Telling people that “Bitcoin is money” leads them to understand the token faster than efforts to promote its “commodity” status, Mow said.
Mow explained:
“We have a bridgehead. El Salvador is a small anchor, and we need more. Because […] the powers that be want to deploy CBDCs [central bank digital currencies].”
Mow said Bitcoiners should “fight and counter” CBDC advances “with BTC,” the “only” tool that can effectively “counter” the advance of digital fiats.
The CEO also felt that BTC could be a “godsend” for countries with geothermal and hydropower resources.
These countries could mine crypto to become “a wealthy nation” in the vein of “Saudi Arabia or the United Arab Emirates.”
In his Twitter bio, Mow currently describes himself as “working on nation-state adoption of Bitcoin.”
A growing number of international Bitcoiners have recently partnered with the Salvadoran government.
In recent years, these have included Ricardo Salinas Pliego, one of the richest men in Mexico and a notable BTC bull.
Bitcoiners Max Keizer and Stacy Herbert now lead the Salvadoran National Bitcoin Office.
And late last month, the government appointed Saifedean Ammous, the author of “The Bitcoin Standard,” as an economic adviser to the same office.
