The CFTC relies on several well-known names from the crypto world – and also includes the cream of international finance on the committee.

The USA is really in the big maneuvers when it comes to cryptocurrencies. Further proof of the recent overhaul of the CFTC, with the appointment of new personalities who will allow the agency which regulates the derivatives market to be able to count on specialists in the sector.

Within this list, against all the predictions of those who do not follow these events closely, there are also several well-known names in the crypto world, including representatives of a popular exchange, a major network of layer 2 on Ethereum and also people coming from top DeFi protocols.

A committee which will meet for the first time on July 17 and which will also, in all likelihood, participate in the internal struggle between the various American agencies which govern the financial markets. A fight that also concerns the world of crypto-currencies very closely.

Crypto.com, Uniswap, Polygon: at the top of financial regulation in the USA

The best-known and most important names that have been included in the committee’s list come from Crypto.com, with Steve Humenik who, as vice-chairman of the exchange, will play an important role on said committee.

There will also be room for Rebecca Rettig, head of policy at Polygon Matic, as well as other characters closely tied to top crypto projects. In fact, the list of specialists also includes Stellar’s Adam Minehardt, as well as Uniswap’s Marvin Ammori.

There is no room for either of the two exchanges that have problems with the other important US agency, the SEC – none of the committee members actually have a position at either Binance or Coinbase, a very peculiar situation because as a representative of the stock market world he was instead selected as a specialist under Crypto.com.

There are also big names in Traditional Finance

The committee will be serious – and to prove it there are the other members of the committee, who come from the main companies in the world of traditional finance. Indeed, Moody’s, Nasdaq, Standard Chartered, Société Générale, JP Morgan, Goldman Sachs, Franklin Templeton, Fidelity, CME, BNY Mellon and BlackRock will participate in the work.

A floor that also includes several of the companies involved in the wave of Bitcoin Spot ETFs that have been sent to the SEC for approval. Appointments therefore heavy, which at least for the most optimistic have hinted at the possibility of a decisive step for the CFTC towards greater openness to this sector.

The CFTC summons all the big names

Who knows if the committee will be given more space to roam freely and therefore also in contrast to what would seem to be the SEC’s now unsurpassable aversion to the sector.

An internal struggle between two different regulatory agencies in the USA which will also have important political consequences. Gary Gensler actually under the barrage of the Republican wing closest to the cryptocurrency world, and several of the presidential candidates for the upcoming primaries have said they are in open contrast to SEC policy.

A situation that will therefore drag on until the next election – until one of the two currents emerges: on the one hand, the possibilityist one that would like to make the USA the world cradle of the crypto sector. On the other, those who would like to hinder the whole sector.
