Ben McKenzie is tearing celebrities up for pushing crypto… Leave it to the finance professionals!!! 07/20/2023 1:42 PM PT
Ben McKenzie says celebrities shouldn’t be selling digital currencies…instead he says they should stick to the usual stuff, like overpriced water, so people don’t go broke.
The former “OC” star joined us Thursday on “TMZ Live” and we asked him about the massive celebrity publicity blitz that was pushing crypto through the Super Bowl and beyond… only for the market to crash.
Ben has since written a book about the rise and fall of crypto, “Easy Money,” and he has some strong opinions…like how celebrities should never give financial advice.
Ben thinks all of the folks featured in those Super Bowl ads for crypto…like Tom Brady, Lindsay Lohan, and Larry David, to name a few…would be better served selling car insurance, soap, and H2O.
For Ben, the big difference here is the unregulated status of cryptocurrency…plus the fact that celebrities aren’t licensed financial advisers…and he believes Hollywood has contributed to what he considers the biggest Ponzi scheme in history.
Tons of people lost money when the crypto boom broke and a lot of people got sued…and Ben says the scammers used the celebrity appeal to earn points.
Ben took the issue to Congress and now he’s written a book about it…so it’s interesting to hear his takeaways here.
