Crypto liquidations have spiked over the past day as markets pull back and sentiment wanes. Furthermore, the vast majority of these rekt were long positions in various crypto assets, according to Coinglass.

Spike in crypto liquidations
Data from analytics platform CoinGlass shows a 225% increase in liquidations on July 24 compared to the previous day. Furthermore, 85% of them were long positions in BTC, ETH and XRP, he noted.
In the past 24 hours, 46,066 traders were liquidated, he reported.

Bitcoin’s 2.2% drop on the day to touch $29,000 wiped out many long positions from those expecting it to break above $30,000 again.
Ripples XRP also caused traders a lot of pain as it plunges below $0.70 for the first time since news of the SEC win.
The past four hours paint a different picture with short positions in DOGE being liquidated as the token rises. Around $1.8 million in liquidations took place on Dogecoin alone, with DOGE gaining 8% on the day.
Speculators on the new Worldcoin WLD were also liquidated, with the token dropping more than 40% less than a day after its launch.
Crypto spot markets have lost $23 billion in the past 24 hours. Additionally, it sent the total capitalization back to $1.21 trillion, its lowest level in a month.
The volatility index decreases
Nonetheless, the markets remain in a range bounded channel that has continued for the past four months.
Derivatives analytics platform Greeks Live reported that the volatility index for BTC and ETH fell to its lowest level since the metric was measured two years ago.
This means that implied volatility (IV), which is measured from expiring contracts, is also at an all-time low. Derivatives traders are expecting more sideways movements with decreasing volumes and liquidity.
Continued weakness in liquidity has severely depressed IV levels, and today’s rapid decline to a fresh short-term low of $29,000 failed to drive IV higher, with almost all futures IVs failing to rise and the market remaining dead.
Reflecting this lull in volatility and sentiment, the Bitcoin Fear and Greed Index remains neutral, right in the middle at 50.
