Thousands of people from around the world have flocked to Miami for Bitcoin 2021, billed as the biggest crypto event in history. The conference was also Wynwood’s first major event since the start of the pandemic.
On the second day of the festivities, Miami-Dade County Commissioner Danielle Cohen Higgins delivered the keynote address to a packed house.
This is a comprehensive tour of the industry, ”said Cohen Higgins. “These are businesses. They’re financial industries and we want them to have a home and I think Miami-Dade County is the perfect home.
Miami city officials welcomed the conference with open arms, hoping to become the newest big tech hotspot.
County leaders have also created a task force to examine how residents could use cryptocurrency as a means of payment for taxes, fees, and services.
One of the most anticipated events of the conference was a demonstration by skateboarding icon Tony Hawk, who gave one of the keynote addresses on Bitcoin and skateboarding as the now mainstream counter-cultures.

CNBC Shark Tank’s Kevin O’Leary, who spoke on mining as a state-owned enterprise and comedian Tom Dillon, were other notables on the closing day of the conference.
Numerous crypto-related announcements were made throughout the two-day conference, including how Bitcoin will go to the moon later this year by robotic technology company Astrobotic.
Additionally, in a video released on Saturday, the President of El Salvador, Nayib Bukele, announced a partnership with digital holding company, Strike, to build the country’s modern financial infrastructure using bitcoin technology, because it appears to become the first country in the world to adopt Bitcoin as legal tender.
Bitcoiners from all over have come to learn and network within the Bitcoin community and many believe the hype is real.
I think the hype about it, for me, is that people have their money, ”said Lacey London, a day trader who came to Miami just for the conference. “So we own our money. It is no longer in the centralized bank.
