Crypto: now bull-powered

For a long time, FT Alphaville has warned our readers that the majority of the crypto space is full of bulls.

But we didn’t know it would get to the point that cow droppings would become a key selling point for parts miners.

In our inboxes this morning:

A crypto mining company that runs its computers from cow manure has recorded £ 5million in sales bookings so far this year.

Bury-based Easy Crypto Hunter says inquiries increased after Elon Musk attacked Bitcoin mining for power-hungry energy created by harmful fossil fuels.

Mining Bitcoin generally requires a super powerful and power hungry computer, and most mining is done in China, where energy costs are much cheaper than here in the UK.

But Josh Riddett’s mining machines – measuring 70cm x 35cm x 40cm – are designed to mine other digital currencies like Ravencoin and Ethereum and use much less energy.

Mr. Riddett’s mining equipment “is powered by anaerobic digestion (AD) machines that transform animal waste into renewable energy.” The process works by converting the feces into biogas, according to the EPA.

And here’s Riddett with one of the suppliers of the stinky renewable energy source:

It’s fair to say that the crypto-space is doing everything in its power to capitalize on its reputation as an environmental destroyer.
