A little over a century ago, the ubiquitous future American industrialist and committed pacifist Henry Ford declared that history is more or less bogus because he despised tradition and wanted progress to bring peace.
This columnist is someone who believes that time is circular and that the future, past and present-present are all part of the same continuum, so I disagree with Henry Ford although there are many who would say, and like to say, this crypto is layered, period. No more no less. We know who you are.
Most of the people who saw the movie Interstellar would be with me, this movie being the source of most of my scientific opinions and a lot more. I could watch this movie every day and believe it’s most likely the Word of God.
Ford, of course, changed the world with the world’s first affordable motor car – the Model T – which in 1918 dominated the market and originated from the world’s first assembly line and the notion of mass production.
One man, globally dominant in transport? Extraordinary that more than 100 years later, Elon Musk has imitated the omnipresence of Henry Ford and while the means of production are now more sophisticated and it is the open space rather than the open road that is now dreaming, the comparisons are obvious.

Oddly, the two men have a lot more in common than providing mobility to the masses and that is the value and reality of money. Completely bypassing Muskisms and his strange Tony Stark behavior because too much is made of such nonsense, Ford himself was an early father of different currencies.
Aligning with his pacifism and his belief that gold was controlled by countries that liked to wage war, then the alternative would be an energy dollar based on the natural wealth of its energy resources. Back then, that obviously would have been oil, coal and gas, not solar or wind power.
Ford’s premise was that gold was controlled and energy resources couldn’t be (how wrong he was), but his basic philosophy was decentralization and that the value of his currency would be a quantity of energy equal to a dollar that has been exerted over an hour.
It sounds strangely like Bitcoin to me, but in the strangest way possible. Mining, energy, energy burnout, volatility, resource depletion.
One could even suggest that Ford was the original ‘climate change devil’ and, in creating the Model T, he was responsible for much of the global warming that we are trying to understand and deal with as the world approaches. end of the world.
Ford wouldn’t have called its decentralization of the energy dollar, more decentralization and maybe that is what decentralization is anyway. Crypto-evangelists, and let’s be honest, the traditionally disadvantaged, want control as much as anything else.
Sort them out
Crypto is a big church, but there are many, many sinners within it and I’m sure not all of them have heard the gospel from Interstellar. It would suit them.
Ford’s insight into creating the assembly line did not happen with his idea of the energy dollar and he also suffered massive failures as described by the wonderful Fordlandia book when Ford tried to requisition the Amazon rainforest to create a rubber supply chain that was about as successful as the Nazis trying to create a postwar eugenic empire in other parts of South America.
All of these questions, possibilities, prophecies, and world currencies can shake the post-pandemic mind when social enjoyment is far more important than internal brain conflicts.
However, in times of change and transformation there is always Interstellar and as much as I love football and the Euros, it is my evening entertainment because this movie will never, never, never be layered, not now, not then, never.
