In this episode of Bitcoin Magazine’s “Meet The Taco Plebs”, I sat down with plebe Zac Watson (@zwatson on Twitter), to discuss his Bitcoin rabbit hole story, his thoughts on the impact of Bitcoin on life and its future price predictions.
Watson explained in detail that his friends introduced him to Bitcoin in 2013 and their passion for Bitcoin, sparking interest in Bitcoin for himself. We chatted about Bitcoin 2021 and all the great experiences we had throughout the weekend.
Finally, we touched on what he thinks is the most amazing part of bitcoin: most importantly, the fact that Bitcoin allows people to relieve themselves from government oppression to become self-reliant. And we’ve also detailed how welcoming the Bitcoin community is.
Below is some more information from Watson on his Bitcoin journey.
What’s your Bitcoin rabbit hole story?
Nothing too exciting or extravagant about my rabbit hole story.
I first heard about Bitcoin when I was back in high school around 2012 or 2013. A friend mentioned wanting to get some, but I didn’t think much about it other than “hmm, that’s interesting “.
Fast forward a few years later, to 2016, when I came back to it: I had a few friends who were pretty comfortable and who were pretty keen on tech and freedom. These guys were pretty smart and I respected them quite a bit. They always seemed to be very forward thinking so I thought I should probably start paying attention and learning more about this magic money on the internet. A little later in the year some of us went to this music festival, Electric Forest, and my friend Brad had this massive flag pole with a planet Earth flag and a Bitcoin flag. Seeing him enthusiastically and vigorously shaking it all weekend really planted a seed and helped me pick up orange.
One of my lessons from this trip was to start getting some of that bitcoin. Heard there was this upcoming halving as well, which was apparently bullish for the price, so I bought some at halving and stacked and HODLing ever since.
In 2017, I fell for some of the talk about shitcoin marketing and the traditional ‘I have to diversify’ and ended up dabbling in some of the shitcoins during this alternate season. I stopped buying them in 2018, however, and ended up trading them for more bitcoin after going deeper into the rabbit hole and turning more and more orange. “The Bitcoin Standard” has certainly helped a lot. Now I’m just a visionary sat demon trying my best to stay humble and stack as many sats as possible.
How has Bitcoin changed your life?
Bitcoin has really helped change my perspective on pretty much everything. It reduced my time preference to focus on the big picture, encouraged me to present myself each day as the best version of myself I can be, gave me a whole new sense of clarity like never before before and gave me immense hope. for the future of this world and of humanity.
It’s very exciting to go through this paradigm shift and enter this new era of rebirth of abundance and prosperity. It has helped me find some peace and certainty in this current state of chaos and uncertainty the world seems to be in. Overall, it has helped me refocus on what is most important to me in life and reconnect with my principles and values. I have a whole new sense of motivation and inspiration since I fell down the rabbit hole. You don’t change Bitcoin, Bitcoin changes you.
What’s the most amazing thing about Bitcoin for you?
Wow, that’s a tough question. There are so many amazing things about Bitcoin.
I think if I had to reduce it I would say either the sovereignty that comes with it or the people involved. I love the way it frees and empowers so many people in the world and creates a legion of sovereign individuals. He also seems to attract some of the biggest and brightest minds. Some of the smartest, kindest, and most aroused people seem to be involved in and building Bitcoin. I have met some of the coolest people in space.
Some people say that the Bitcoin community is not a thing or is just too toxic. I believe that is one of the greatest features of it. Starting to go to IRL dating was one of the best decisions I’ve made. I like being surrounded by people who inspire me. It’s honestly so refreshing to meet so many people who see clearly through the lies and the propaganda and have a solid understanding of the madness that is going on in the world. Bravo to all the plebs, cyberfrelons, rulers and monsters.
What are you looking forward to the most in the Bitcoin space?
I really can’t wait for all the tools to be built for the self-sovereignty and global freedom of mankind. It’s so impressive how many people log into an open money network and can take back control of their money without melting it. It allows many to become much more sovereign in the process.
It’s really cool to see everything built with open source projects; they literally build tools for individual sovereignty. There was this one project in the FOSS Dome [at Bitcoin 2021] where this guy literally had this weatherproof case with a node setup in it, and he connects through Starlink and an access point. A literal off-grid node.
I also think that privacy is going to become one of the biggest priorities for people, and has been for me. I tried to learn a lot more about what RoninDojo and Samurai are building. These projects seem to be the next level.
Like many others, I’m also very excited about what’s built with Lightning. It’s super impressive to see how quickly it is blossoming and where it is heading. There are so many cool projects out there, like Zeus for example.
Ultimately, Bitcoin was created to be a “peer-to-peer electronic payment system” and one that will need privacy and speed to fulfill this role. I think we’re on the right track and it’s exciting to see while gaining sovereignty in the process.
Price forecast for the end of 2021, and the end of 2030?
I think we hit sat / cent parity before the end of 2021 (over $ 1,000,000). I think we could potentially do it by Halloween. I think it will be over $ 10,000,000 by the end of 2030 and hit sat / dollar parity ($ 100,000,000) by the end of 2033.
I think it’s very bearish and we can do it much sooner, especially with all the money printing going on and the hyperinflationary world of the Weimar Republic. I think we’re about to switch from ‘sudden’ and are nearing escape speed to move quickly into full-blown hyperbitcoinization.
