According to Business Insider, the Indian government is currently considering tightening its restriction on foreign crypto exchanges that operate within the nation’s borders. Officials plan to introduce an 18% duty on all foreign crypto exchanges, removing the distinction between Indians and foreign exchanges like Binance.

The applicable duty on all stock exchanges operating in India is GST i.e. Goods and Services Tax. The custody service has taken its time crafting laws and imposing duties on foreign crypto exchanges in the form of TPS in order to resume operations in the country.

Introduction of a law on foreign cryptographic exchanges

In India, there has been an increase of around 19,000% in crypto investments, and the authorities have certainly witnessed this colossal increase. It is therefore even more important to place additional restrictions on foreign crypto exchanges operating in the country. To operate in the country, crypto exchanges like WazirX must pay duties in the form of a goods and services tax.

The tax department has decided to place these crypto exchanges under the Online Information Database (OIDAR) valuation and retrieval services. In the set of services mentioned in this document, all foreign exchanges will be included as they provide digital services as well as data services to the citizens of the nation. Under OIDAR, all foreign cryptocurrency exchange transactions in India will be listed and, therefore, they will be subject to the payment of the Goods and Services Tax of 18%.

The Indian government also imposes a 2% duty on all transactions that occur on these crypto exchanges. With these rules, the Indian government seeks to allow crypto exchange operations in the country.
