Newegg, Bitcoin and Carver Bancorp: what to watch out for when the market opens

The day promises to be quite busy on the markets. Here’s what was looking before opening Thursday.

Equity futures fell and government bond yields continued to decline as investors continued to pull out of bets during a period of high growth and inflation. Bitcoin fell more than 5% to $ 32,577.19 from its level on Wednesday at 5 p.m. ET. Ether, the second largest cryptocurrency by market value, and joke crypto dogecoin each sank over 7%. Newegg Commerce shares are down more than 10% before market. The e-merchant’s shares jumped more than 100% on Wednesday, after the company said its make-to-order service will offer professional PC assembly to customers who design computers on Newegg PC Builder. AMC Entertainment fell 8% pre-market and GameStop fell 5% as the risky mood hit popular memestocks. Carver Bancorp shares jumped more than 80% before marketing. Carver, based in New York, is the largest bank operated by Africans and Caribbean Americans. Some traders on the Reddits WallStreetBets forum have speculated on a potential for a short-squeeze in recent weeks, in which a rise in stock prices forces those who bet against stocks to buy them back, giving stocks a new boost. Chinese stocks listed in the United States, which are subject to regulatory crackdown in their country, continued their recent collapse. Didi Global fell over 5% pre-market, Full Truck Alliance fell over 7%, and Kanzhun fell over 4%. Market Facts Coal supplied 23% of US electricity generation from the start of the year to mid-June, up from 17% in the same period of 2020, according to an analysis by Wood Mackenzie preliminary EIA data.
