In 2019, a man with similar hair to Fabio entered the cryptocurrency scene with questionable claims when he told a large number of people that he helped co-found the creation of Bitcoin. Self-proclaimed Bitcoin inventor named Jörg Molt not only proposed a ‘Satoshi school’, but also allegedly carried out a number of scams. The Bild publication reports that the 48-year-old was arrested by Bavarian police at Frankfurt Airport on charges of fraud.
Self-proclaimed Bitcoin inventor Jörg Molt arrested in Frankfurt
Jörg Molt once claimed to have helped invent Bitcoin and also said he was good friends with Andreas Antonopoulos after a wild appearance at the WCC Vegas Blockchain Week 2019 conference. Molt is said to have toured the conference in Las Vegas in claiming to be the co-inventor of Bitcoin. After the story went viral, Antonopoulos discredited his claims and stressed that he did not know Molt at all.
“Apparently a German called ‘Jörg Molt’ showed a selfie taken with me and told people that we are friends – that’s a LIE,” Antonopoulos tweeted at the time. “I don’t know him at all – I’ve heard from others that he claims to be the founder of Bitcoin and owns thousands of BTC – A LIE.”
Jörg Molt is professionally known as DJ Sun Love in Germany.
The regional publication the Bild reports that Molt was recently arrested while preparing to board a plane at Frankfurt Airport. Law enforcement officials believe Molt is behind some of the scams also involving a 54-year-old woman believed to have been his mate. Bavarian police also searched Molt’s home and found evidence related to the investigation.
German “DJ Sun Love” launched Bitcoin pension fund which went out of business in 2020
Molt is accused of defrauding 50 people for $ 2.14 million with a scheme dubbed the “Bitcoin Pension” project. Molt, who is also a well-known DJ in Germany, reportedly told investors that the funds he obtained would go to BTC miners in Sweden. 40% of the funds would have been kept in a secure account, but in 2020 Bitcoin Pension went out of business and investors called it a scam.
Investigators say self-proclaimed Satoshi has not invested the funds in mining and is being charged for his promises of big returns. In 2019, at the WCC Vegas Blockchain Week event, Molt told people he had over 250,000 bitcoins. However, despite Molt’s claims, his ex-wife filmed a Youtube video claiming that Molt did not even own a computer in 2008 when the Bitcoin network was launched.
