Google searches for Bitcoin price hit 7-month low

[ad_1]

Web research data shows that the general population has lost interest in bitcoin thanks to the silence of the generally volatile cryptocurrency in recent weeks.

Google Trends, a widely used tool for gauging general interest in trending topics, currently returns a value of 19 for the global search query “price of bitcoin” over the past five years.

This is the lowest reading since December and marks a significant drop from the high of 86 seen two months ago. Google Trends provides access to a mostly unfiltered sample of actual search requests to Google and scales their searches from 0 to 100, according to the company.

The cryptocurrency’s lackluster two-month price action between $ 30,000 and $ 40,000 appears to have scared retailer interest, which surged earlier this year.

Research queries typically increase when price volatility is high and existing, and potential investors are looking for information regarding the current bullish / bearish action in the market.

For example, the value of Google search rose from a number to over 60 in the three months to early January, as bitcoin rose from $ 10,000 to $ 40,000. Retailer interest waned over the next two months when bitcoin got stuck in the $ 50,000- $ 60,000 range. Retailer interest reached new highs in May as prices started to decline.

An increase in the value of Google search does not necessarily imply an increase in buying or selling pressure. Often, investors seek information but do not act. Nonetheless, traders are keeping an eye on Google search values as the spike in retailer interest, a sign of fear of missing out (FOMO), is often seen as a sign that the market is approaching a significant high. Likewise, record retail queries are considered to represent the lowest point of the bear market.

While the research value has moved significantly away from its peak in May, it remains slightly above the average value of around 10 seen between May 2018 and September 2020.

Other social measures also indicate a decline in general attention. For example, the seven-day average of mentions of bitcoin on social media, including Telegram, Reddit, Twitter, recently fell to a six-month low at 1,445, according to the company’s weekly research note. Santiment analysis published on Monday.

The note added that the average mood for daily bitcoin-related mentions is extremely bearish. In addition, the relative social dominance of the cryptocurrency, which compares the number of daily mentions of BTC to that of several other large-cap assets, has increased from 80% to 60% in four weeks.

On the contrary, the decline in public interest and the bearish mood could be the harbinger of good times.

“Low levels of crowd chatter and a bearish bias may work in favor of the upper coin, signaling undervalued conditions and potential for a near-term recovery,” Santiment said. “While historical performance is not indicative of future results, several rallies in bitcoin price over the past two years have coincided with a predominantly bearish sentiment.”

At the time of going to press, bitcoin was trading at nearly $ 31,700, down 3.5% on the day, according to data from CoinDesk 20.
