How the cryptocurrency market went down
Why has the crypto market collapsed?
Following Tesla’s move, the market was already going through a period of turbulence before China announced a crackdown on cryptocurrencies that saw prices plummet.
China has banned all of its banks and financial institutions from offering its customers services involving cryptocurrencies, including coin offerings and transactions.
The country’s financial sector bodies have also warned against speculative trading.
The National Internet Finance Association of China, the China Banking Association, and the Payment and Clearing Association of China have issued a combined statement.
He said: Recently, cryptocurrency prices have soared and fallen, and speculative cryptocurrency trading has rebounded, seriously undermining the security of people’s property and disrupting the normal economic and financial order.
China has since ordered a complete shutdown of Bitcoin mining in its Sichuan province and has asked banks to stop supporting crypto transactions, amid a latest wave of crypto restrictions that have saw the prices drop.
At what price has Bitcoin fallen?
The crash saw the price of Bitcoin drop to 22,678.07 around 10 a.m. on July 16 – about half the value from its all-time high of 47,240.05 on April 14, 2021.
The price drop was significant and was at the same level as mid-January 2021 levels before the crypto took advantage of three successful months which saw its value soar.
Its valuation was bolstered by the news that Tesla had bought $ 1.5 billion (1.06 billion) of Bitcoin shares, which caused the market price of crypto and Tesla to skyrocket.
Ethereum fell 35.56%, Binance Coin fell 45.20%, Dogecoin 35.12%, Uniswap -45.42%, and Litecoin -44.55%, according to coinmarketcap.com.
And, just as the market was showing signs of recovery, the June 8 crash saw Bitcoin drop 10.33%, Ethereum drop 11.82%, Cardano drop 13.15%, XRP drop 11.66%. and Dogecoin lose 12.32%.
There have been fluctuations since, with the market falling 3.80% in the 24 hours to 10 a.m. on July 16, 2021.
Will the crypto market recover – and when?
This is the question on everyone’s lips right now.
Will the crypto market recover, when and is now a good time to stick or twist?
There are differing opinions and a wide range of answers to these questions, so be sure to do what’s best for you and your personal situation.
Over the past year, Bitcoin has seen its value increase by 197.03% – even taking into account the crypto crashes of May 19 and June 8 – according to Coinbase.
The current overall price is far from the all-time highs the cryptocurrency saw in mid-April, but it’s still up from the same time last year – and far away.
Zooming in further, the price of Bitcoin has climbed 34,381.49% since that time in 2014.
Alexander Vasiliev, co-founder of the global payments network Mercuryo, said in an article in The Independent: At this rate of decline, bitcoin should enjoy support at $ 40,000. [28316.20] if the sale continues, and surviving this fundamental assault may set a new race that will set a new record of $ 70,000 [49,553.35] in the medium and long term.
Yet this view is not shared by Kevin Brown, savings and investment specialist at Scottish Friendly, who cautioned against investing for anyone who does not understand the market.
The level of volatility means savers who choose to invest in cryptocurrencies should be prepared to lose all of their money, he said.
At least when you are at the bookies you have a real chance to understand the outcome and the odds if you know horses or football.
What did Tesla do with his bitcoin holdings?
Meanwhile, it should be remembered that Tesla is still in possession of its Bitcoin holdings, despite its environmental concerns, as Elon Musk confirmed on Twitter.
Responding to criticism of falling Bitcoin prices, Musk said: To clarify the speculation, Tesla did not sell any Bitcoin.
