The mayor wants his city to accept Bitcoin for the payment of the property tax

Bitcoin (CRYPTO: BTC) may soon be accepted for payment of property tax by a city in the United States. Scott Conger, mayor of Jackson, Tennessee, announced last week that the city has launched a study into methods of accepting cryptocurrency payments. The city has set up a blockchain task force that will also look at ways for city employees to receive bitcoin salary payments on an average dollar cost basis.

Conger says he watched the actions of Miami Mayor Francis Suarez, who said his city would welcome bitcoin miners with open arms as they flee China due to a nationwide crackdown. Suarez also said Miami is looking to lower energy prices to attract cryptocurrency miners, as well as establish corporate zones with lower tax rates and regulations for bitcoin operations. .

Conger, meanwhile, believes the adoption of bitcoin could give the city of Jackson an edge. On Twitter, Conger suggested that inflation was driving the value of the dollar down, saying inflation rose 6.3% in 2 years and 172.8% in his lifetime, adding that he didn’t there was “no rebound” and that bitcoin was the only solution.

Jackson is located midway between Nashville and Memphis with a population of around 70,000.
