Donald Trump on Monday endorsed Texas Attorney Ken Paxton for re-election, giving the incumbent the urge sought in the main 2022 GOP that also features Land Commissioner George P. Bush and former Texas Supreme Court Justice Eva Guzman.

Attorney General Ken Paxton is bravely on the front line in the fight for Texas, and America, against the vicious and very dangerous Radical Left Democrats, and the stupid and unscrupulous RINOs who are destroying our Country. , Trump wrote in an email. Ken is strong on Crime, Border Security, the Second Amendment, Election Integrity and, most of all, our Constitution.

Paxton on Monday tweeted that he was honored to support Trump.

Despite Trumps endorsement of Paxton, Bush reaffirmed his intention to challenge Paxton after Trump announced he had endorsed Paxton.

I run for Attorney General because Texans deserve integrity and honesty from the office of the top law enforcement officer, Bush wrote. Texans deserve a candidate with no laundry list of existing and potential criminal charges.

In his Tweet, Bush cites civil charges and criminal investigations unleashing on Paxton, including a 2015 indictment of security fraud. The FBI is also investigating him, according to sources, on bribery allegations related to an alleged extramarital affair. Paxton is married to state Sen. Angela Paxton, R-McKinney.

Seven top staff in the attorney general’s office reported Paxton to law enforcement and charged him with the felony of bribery, office abuse and improper influence. Staff complained that Nate Paul, an Austin-based businessman and campaign donor, had repeatedly tried to use the state agency for personal gain, and Paxton allowed him. Paul took a woman who allegedly had sex with Paxton, according to court deposits.

In response, Paxton accused the employees of disrupting a criminal investigation and firing three of them. He called their allegations untrue and said he would not go down. Paxton said he does his job to defend the constitutional rights of Texas citizens.

Despite the controversies, Trump on Monday poured out his praise on Paxton, who unsuccessfully asked the U.S. Supreme Court to discard the election results of several battlefield states won by President Joe Biden. At the time and in recent weeks Trump has praised Paxton for pushing his Make America Great Again agenda.

He loves our Military and our Vets, Trump wrote in the statement. It will take a PATRIOT like Ken Paxton to advance America First rules to Rebuild America … He is a true Texan who will keep Texas safe and will never let you down!

Bush is actively courting an endorsement from Trump. When he announced his role for attorney general last month, Bush said that throughout his life he had been willing to chart a different course and offered as an example that he was the only member of his politically famous family to endorse Trump. The Bushs campaign drank koozies depicting Bush and Trump, printed on: This is the only Bush I want. It was Bush who got it right. I like him. – Donald J. Trump.

The nephew of former President George W. Bush and the son of former Florida Jeb Bush, George P. Bush has many connections to Trump’s orbit and Donald Trump Jr.’s friend.

But it’s clear to most political observers that Paxton will get Trump’s endorsement, especially after the former president acknowledged the attorney general several times in his speech this month at the Conservative Political Action Conference in Dallas.

Paxton and Guzman also addressed the CPAC.

Guzman entered the race after Bush, and was not seen as an opponent for Trumps support.
