Jim Jordan avoided the question of whether he had spoken to Trump before, during or after the turmoil at the U.S. Capitol

Republican Jim Jordan tipped around exactly that he spoke to Donald Trump on Jan. 6 amid threats from the Capitol riot committee that he could be called as a material witness to the investigation.

The Ohio congressman confirmed in an interview with Spectrum News that he spoke with the former president on the day of the attack, but he cannot remember when the conversation took place.

“I’m really amazed sometimes that people keep asking this, of course, I talk to the president all the time,” he added.

When asked if it was before, during or after the Capitol attack, Mr. Jordan replied that he “spoke to him that day, then”, before clarifying that he was unsure of the timing.

“I think then. I don’t know if I talked to him in the morning or not. I just don’t know, I have to go back and, I mean I don’t, I don’t know, when those conversations happen that that, but all I know is I talked to him about everything he said.

Mr. Jordan was among the group of GOP representatives originally elected to sit on the committee Jan. 6 before House speaker Nancy Pelosi vetoed her participation and installed Liz Cheney and Adam Kinzinger, who both voted to impeach Trump.

The question of who Mr. Trump spoke to on Jan. 6 is central to the impeachment that ultimately failed to convict the former president of inciting an uprising.

House impeachment officials were forced to retract a statement that Senator Mike Lee received a call from Mr. Trump during the unrest, based on reports the president sought to speak with Alabama Senator Tommy Tuberville about the issuance of objections to the Electoral College vote count.

Mr. Trump also said there was a hot call with Kevin McCarthy in which the former president was quoted as saying that people in the Capitol were more upset about the election than the House Republican leader, who requested that asking Mr. Trump to stop. his supporters.

Before the committee hearing began on Tuesday, Ms. Cheney designated Mr. Jordan as a potential focus of the hearing.

“Yeah. I mean, I talked to the president I talked to the president so I don’t remember a lot of all the days I talked to him, but I definitely talked to the president,” he said.
