Donald Lee Whitaker

Donald Lee Whitaker, 71, of Goshen passed away around 9:49 a.m. Wednesday, July 28, at his residence with his family next to him. He was born July 7, 1950, in Michigan City to Junior Archer and Phyllis (Scheidler) Thews. On May 23, 1992, in Goshen he married Kathleen Johnson. He survived. Survivors in addition to her husband are five children, Angela Luttrell of Leesburg, Melissa Robinson of Lafayette, Aaron (Laura) Read New Paris, Tori Read New Paris, Annette Wallace of Etna Green; 16 grandchildren are the leaders of 11 great -grandchildren. Don was one of 18 siblings and was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Clarence Thews; and two sons -in -law, Terry Luttrell and Greg Wallace. Don has been a truck driver most of his life working for various area companies and making long-distance trucks. He recently worked in the maintenance department for Goshen Dairy. He was a decorated Army veteran who served his country during the Vietnam War. He was a Harley Davidson enthusiast who enjoyed fishing and spending time with his family. Family and friends will gather for a one -hour visit before the 11th of life service celebration Saturday, Aug. 7, at Goshen Christian Church, 2133 Berkey Ave., Goshen. Services will be conducted by John Gorball. Military awards will be held after service and memorials may be given to the Fallen Patriots.
