Kinzinger: McCarthy and Jordan should face the Jan. 6 subpoenas but probably not Trump | Attack of the US Capitol

Adam Kinzinger, one of two Republican committees in the House investigating the attack on the U.S. Capitol, will support subpoenas for testimony from Kevin McCarthy, the Republican minority leader, and senior members of congress GOP with Jim Jordan, a prominent Trump ally from Ohio.

I will support subpoenas to anyone who can shed light on the events on Jan. 6, Kinzinger said on Sunday, on ABCs This Week.

If that’s the leader, that’s the leader; if anyone spoke to the president who could give us that information.

He also suggested a subpoena for Donald Trump himself is unlikely, given the ongoing circus around the former president and Trump’s habit of lying.

Kinzinger of Illinois and Wyoming representative Liz Cheney were the only Republicans on the House panel, after McCarthy withdrew from cooperation in reaction to Speaker Nancy Pelosis’s rejection of Jordan and Jim Banks of Indiana, because in their support of Trumps lies that his defeat of Joe Biden was the result of election fraud.

Republicans in the Senate have blocked an independent commission. The GOP has already attacked the House committee for not being adequately bipartisan. On Sunday even Susan Collins, a moderate senator from Maine who voted to pardon Trump for the Capitol attack, told CNNs State of the Union: I don’t think it’s right for the spokesperson to decide which Republicans should be on the committee.

The panel held an emotional first hearing this week, with testimony from four police officers who fought the rioters. All officers asked representatives to find out who inspired and led the riot.

One, Harry Dunn, said: If a hitman is hired and he kills someone, the hitman is incarcerated. But not only is the hitman incarcerated, the person who took them is doing.

There was an attack carried out on January 6 and a hitman sent them out. I want you to get under it.

McCarthy and Jordan reportedly spoke with Trump on Jan. 6.

McCarthys ‘conversation was raised in Trumps’ second impeachment trial, on charges of inciting an uprising.

According to a Republican congressman, Trump responded to McCarthys ’protests about the riot, in which five people were killed, by saying: Well, Kevin, I guess these people are more upset about the election than you are.

McCarthy avoided being asked about the conversation.

Jordan admitted this week that he also spoke with Trump on Jan. 6.

Moreover, according to a memo by a senior justice department official released by a committee in the House on Friday, Trump mentioned Jordan as an ally in Congress in a Dec. 27 call in which he told the acting attorney general that Just say the election was bad [and] leave the rest to me.

I wanted to know what the president was doing at every moment of that day after he said, I’m going to walk you to the Capitol, Kinzinger told ABC, referring to what Trump said at a rally near the White House on Jan. 6 , before Congress rushed.

Accounts in the best -selling books say Trump primarily watched television, and had to be backed into recording a statement saying the rioters should go home.

Kinzinger continued: Then [Alabama representative] Mo Brooks stood up and said Will kick in the back and take names, until now that the patriots take back the country from other people, I want to know what they are doing because that will be important.

I want to know, you know if the national outpost took five or six hours to get to Capitol Hill, did the president call? And if [he] no, why, and if he did of course how could the national guard still last five hours? I think the president picked up the phone and called, the guard was there right away.

Asked if he would support a subpoena for Trump, he said: We may not have talked to Donald Trump to get the information. There were tons of people around him. There were tons of people involved in the things that led up to 6 January.

Obviously if you talk to the former president that will have everything to do with it so when I look at Im I like it, maybe. But I knew the information would be available. If he has unique information that is one thing but I think a lot of people around him know.

Kinzinger was an air force veteran and member of the national outpost and one of many representatives who became emotional as they spoke to officials who defended the Capitol and introduced the video of the violence that day.

He told ABC: These are things we can’t sweep under the rag of, That was a whole seven months ago, you know, historically that some people were trying because they weren’t comfortable with politics.

If anyone is afraid of this investigation I ask you a question: What are you afraid of? I mean, even if you’re afraid to discover that there’s some culprit here, or if you think it’s not a big deal, you should allow it to continue.

So it’s important for history for American citizens, for the truth anyone with parts of that information, with insider knowledge can expect to talk to the committee.
