The memory is not about Trump. It’s about ending a party rule

To the editor: Harold Myerson suggested that the way to beat the recall is for Democrats to show what will happen to California under a Republican ruling in the spirit of Donald Trump. (Democrats should intimidate their voters at the polls to fight the recall in Newsom, Opinion, Aug. 2)

The former president is not responsible for the growing homeless population, the highest gas prices in the country, the unreliable power grid, the destructive wildf or the poor public schools.

Democrats ’poor governance has hurt Golden State, so perhaps its time to end one party governance.

To the editor: I have a question for any Republican running for governor of California. This is:

If Donald Trump were to call you and ask who you believe won the 2020 presidential election, what would you tell him?

I hope many of them will avoid the question.

To the editor: While I don’t support recall, it seems another reform in the recall process should simply be to replace an already-recalled governor with the already elected lieutenant governor.

The California Constitution provides for a lieutenant governor responsible for replacing a governor who leaves office early, so why choose someone else in the case of a recall?

Whoever is elected in a recall is likely to receive only as many votes perhaps even a small one whereas the lieutenant governor is already elected statewide by a majority.
