Donald E. Gene Elson, age 87, of Miami, MO, died on Sunday, August 8, 2021, at his home.

Friends can call from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 24, at Campbell-Lewis Funeral Home in Marshall. A private family service will be held and can be viewed after 8 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 26, at www.campbell-lewis.com. Burial is at Ridge Park Cemetery in Marshall.

Born December 6, 1933, in Saline County, on the family farm, he was the son of the late Arthur L. Elson and Susie Arlene Burnside Elson. Gene lived in Saline County most of his life and graduated in 1952 from Slater High School. On November 16, 1957 he married Sylvia A. Elder and they are the parents of two children, Mendell L. Elson and Michael L. Elson. On November 24, 1980, he married Elizabeth A. Summers who survived the home. Gene is a longtime farmer and lawn care contractor and has served on the board of directors for Friends of Miami.

Survivors include his wife, Elizabeth Liz Elson of the home; a son, Mendell Elson (Anita); two grandchildren, Abby and Kayla Elson; as well as many nieces, nephews and family.

Gene was preceded by the death of his parents; his son Michael Elson; three brothers and one sister.
