In response to a question about the state of freedom of speech under the country’s new government, Taliban spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid stepped aside, apparently saying the question should have been asked on Facebook instead.

“This question should be asked of them,” relays a translator.

Despite the Taliban’s success in Afghanistan, their content remained banned from Facebook because of their classification as a terrorist organization.

“The Taliban are authorized as a terrorist organization under US law and we have banned them from our service under our Dangerous Organization policies,” a Facebook spokesperson told the BBC. “This means that we have deleted accounts maintained by or on behalf of the Taliban and prohibit their praise, support, and representation.”

In the US, Republicans often say that social media companies like Facebook are censoring against conservative voices and opinions.
