LD16 Flashpoint: Dating Trump Com. Dir. Spicer to Join Pappas for Campaign Event

Sean Spicer, who served as communications director and press secretary for President Donald Trump, will campaign with fellow Republican Mike Pappas later this month.

Pappas is running for the state senate against Assemblyman Andrew Zwicker (D-16).

Spicer and Pappas have a history, and the communications expert will join the Branchburg candidate at Fox Hollow Golf Club on Sunday, Aug. 22 for a special event starting at 3:00 PM.

“Sean started out as my first Press Secretary when I served as a U.S. Congressman,” Pappas said in an email explosion. “I’m honored to have him join us back in Branchburg on Sunday.”

Spicer said:

“I’m excited to join my former boss Mike Pappas in Branchburg on Sunday, August 22 for an afternoon reception and discussion on my latest book, ‘Leading America’. Hope you join us!

“Mike has served as Mayor, a U.S. Congressman in the House of Representatives, and as Regional Administrator of the U.S. Small Business Administration. He is uniquely qualified to serve New Jerseyans in the State Senate,” Spicer added.

On July 21, 2017, Spicer announced his intention to resign as White House Press Secretary. … According to The New York Times, Trump asked Spicer to stay, but Spicer announced his resignation after telling the President that he “strongly disagreed” with Anthony Scaramucci’s appointment.

Pappas and Zwicker are vying for an open state senate seat.

Veteran state Senator Kip Bateman (R-16) this year announced his decision not to pursue re-election.

2021 will be a tough legislative year for the GOP, he said at the time.

I’ve been doing this for 38 years and my family thought you’ve dedicated half your life to public service, maybe it’s time to take care of yourself, the senator explained, referring to his decision not to pursue the election. I thought I could win again. This is not an easy decision. I have a lot of friends in Trenton. I would love to be a senator. I will really miss it. I have never been a Trumper. I did not vote for him. I don’t believe in his style and I think he hurt the Republican Party. I am proud to be a Republican, but the Republican Party in New Jersey and across the country really needs to change ourselves. What happened in Washington is a shame. “
