Donald W. Coulbourn, retired of Diamond State

Donald W. Coulbourn, 89, of Millsboro passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family Monday, Aug. 23, 2021, at his home.

He was born in Salisbury, Md., Jan. 11, 1932, son of the late Charlie Coulbourn and the late Naomi (Brewington) Coulbourn. Donald graduated from Millsboro High School, class of 1950 and then enlisted in the U.S. Navy from 1951-55 during the Korean War.

Donald worked as a telephone installer for the Diamond State Telephone Company, retiring in the 1980s after 38 years of service. His retirement didn’t last as long as he was soon working various jobs to maintain his job, finally retiring completely in 2012 from BJs in Millsboro.

He was a member of the Diamond State Pioneers, a life member of the Amateur Trapshooting Association and National Rifle Association. Donald was an avid hunter, a talented trapshooter, but above all he was a loving man.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife Dorothy Coulbourn; and a son, David C. Coulbourn. Donald is survived by his daughter Denise Coulbourn of Millsboro; a grandson, Brandi Ford and wife Eli of Mesa, Ariz. and two great -grandchildren, Trent Ford and Matthew Ford.

The celebration of Donalds life will be held at 6:30 p.m., Thursday, Sept. 2, at the Long Neck Chapel of Melson Funeral Services, 32013 Long Neck Road, Millsboro, where friends and family can gather after 5:30 p.m. afternoon. held privately at Millsboro Cemetery.
