A Florida representative and ally of former President Donald Trump is passing legislation to audit the 2020 presidential election after the secretary of state rejected his call for an audit of the five most populous provinces.
State Representative Anthony Sabatini, a Republican closely aligned with Trump’s America First agenda, shared the first draft of the audit bill on Twitter Friday. The draft bill requires Florida Governor Ron DeSantis to designate an independent third party to conduct a “forensic audit” of the 2020 election in “every precinct in every province with a population of 415,000 or more.”
Sabatini told Newsweek that the bill will be filed in the coming weeks. “Post-election audits should be normal procedures. Transparency and accountability ensure voter confidence,” he said.
Under the draft bill, the audit must begin on April 15, 2022, and be completed within 60 days. It also requires auditors to submit a report to DeSantis, Florida Secretary of State Laurel M. Lee, the Division of Elections, election supervisors and state congressional leaders within 30 days after the election. -audit.

Despite Trump’s win in Florida in the 2020 presidential election, Sabatini asked Lee in July for a vote audit in Hillsborough, Miami-Dade, Boward, Orange and Palm Beach counties, which are five fortress of the Democrats.
Lee was quick to reject the call, saying the 2020 state election “is accurate, transparent and conducted in accordance with Florida law.”
“A full forensic audit of five counties should be done immediately. Florida voters’ confidence in our elections is at an all -time low. Disturbing revelations in Arizona, Georgia, and other states make it clear that The Secretary of State needs to do more than attempt to secure future elections, ”Sabatini wrote in a statement in July.
Sabatini, who has served in Florida’s 32nd House district in Lake County since 2018, has been supported by Trump’s voter fraud conspiracy theory since the 2020 election. “I’m so grateful that Biden disappeared in 2020 , “he tweeted on Nov. 26.
Last month, Sabatini filed a new bill to name Florida’s longest highway, Highway 27, the “President Donald J. Trump Highway” in honor of him whom he called “one of America’s greatest presidents.”
He is also among murdered political figures in Florida scheduled to speak at AmpFest 2021, an upcoming event taking place at Miami’s Trump National Doral in October that will feature conspiracy theorists and supporters of the radical QAnon movement. Other speakers included Florida Rep. Matt Gaetz, Arizona Rep. Paul Gosar, and longtime Trump ally Roger Stone.
Newsweek reached out to the Florida Democratic Party for comment. This story will be updated with any response.
