Phoebe Waller-Bridge Appears in Mr. Glo and Donald Smith’s series of Donald Glover

Phoebe Waller-Bridge will no longer work on Amazon’s Mr. and Mrs. Smith series with Donald Glover, who remains attached as co-creator, executive producer and star.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Waller-Bridge, who originally signed in to the same role as Glover, “had a different creative vision for the series” than the Atlanta star, but sources said the pair were remain friends and his departure from the project will lovingly return to his role, with the series still on track to premiere on Amazon Prime Video in 2022.

The initial idea for the series is said to have been thought of by Glover still on board with Francesca Sloane who serves as co-creator, showrunner and executive producer. Yariv Milchan of the New Regency and Michael Schaefer are also charged as executive officers to Mr. and Mrs. Smith, with production on the series expected to begin next year.

Writing is currently underway on the series, which will act as a reboot of Doug Liman’s 2005 action comedy film of the same name, famously starring Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie. The film follows the explosive adventure of a couple after discovering that they are both murderers working for controversial intelligence agencies.

Waller-Bridge, Glover and Sloane all have general deals on Amazon. Glover signed his eight-figure deal with Amazon this year and immediately began staffing a writer’s room for a potential new series called Hive, which is rumored to revolve around a Beyonc-like figure. He was also in post-production for the third season of Atlanta’s FX, while the fourth season was in production.

Meanwhile, Waller-Bridge is currently working on Indiana Jones 5. The film recently added Antonio Banderas to the cast along with previously announced stars Mads Mikkelsen, Thomas Kretschmann, Boyd Holbrook, Shaunette Rene Wilson, and Harrison Ford who will return as titular of franchise globe-trotting archaeologist, with James Mangold directing.
