The 21 States Have the Most COVID-19 Cases to Vote For Trump

KEY POINTS Only two Biden-voting states have more COVID-19 cases than the national ratio

Many states that voted for former President Donald Trump in the November 2020 election are now seeing an increase in COVID-19 cases, according to the data.

A study by The Washington Post found that of the 23 U.S. states with the highest number of new cases total per capita, 21 voted from Trump in the 2020 presidential election. These states are Louisiana, Utah, Ohio, Kansas, North Dakota, Indiana, Idaho, Montana, Arkansas, Oklahoma, North Carolina, Texas, Florida, Mississippi, Alabama, Wyoming, Alaska, West Virginia, Kentucky, South Carolina and Tennessee.

In comparison, only two states – Hawaii and Georgia – that voted for President Joe Biden had more COVID -19 cases per capita than the national ratio.

The same statistic applies to the number of deaths in COVID-19. Of the 18 states with new deaths totals higher than the national ratio, 14 voted for Trump. As far as vaccinations are concerned, 12 states voting for Trump are among the 17 states that have not been vaccinated.

“Republicans are less concerned about the virus, more likely to embrace practices like masking, more likely to express opposition to vaccination and (obviously) more likely to vote for Trump,” he wrote. Philip Bump, the national correspondent of the Washington Post.

“The states that see the most new cases and deaths are states that were less vaccinated and more supportive of Trump last year.”

In a poll conducted by the KFF, 20% of Republicans said they would definitely not be vaccinated against COVID-19. In comparison, only 16% of Independent voters and 5% of Democratic voters said they were opposed to shooting a vaccine.

The poll also found that 54% of Republicans were vaccinated against COVID-19 compared to 63% of Independent voters and 86% of Democrats.

The analysis comes after Biden on Thursday announced a new vaccine mandate that would require federal workers to vaccinate against COVID-19. The mandate also mandated employers with more than 100 workers that they would need to either vaccinate workers or order regular checkups.

We’ve been patient, but our patience is meager, and your refusal will cost us all, Biden said in the announcement.

After Bidens moved, several Republican officials threatened legal action against him, saying the order was unconstitutional and an attack on private business.

The president is expected to announce other measures to slow the spread of COVID-19 before the UN General Assembly opens on Tuesday, according to Reuters.
