Donald Trump endorsed Anna Paulina Luna for CD 13, dubbed the protagonist RINOs

Former President Donald Trumpis is supporting vocal-ally Anna Paulina Luna in her candidacy for Florida’s 13th Congressional District.

“Anna Paulina Luna is a great fighter running for Congress in Florida,” Trump said in a statement. “Anna is a warrior, she’s a winner, and it’s time for all American First Republicans to unite behind her tough campaign. Anna has complete and total endorsement.”

Luna got an endorsement from Trump in 2020, where he advanced to the General Election against incumbent U.S. Rep. Charlie Crist, who vacated the seat to run for Governor.

The former President’s endorsement of Luna came from a fellow Republican and former opponent Amanda Makki, who led Trump territory and raised conservative rhetoric in his campaign at the start in July of a shift from his former approach as a more moderately conservative who support Magkatakata.

While in the 2020 race, Makki offered a more established option to Republican voters in the GOP Primary, with Luna claiming Trump’s wing of the party. But, that approach didn’t work two years ago when Trump himself was on the ballot, leading Makki to release the moderate label and discuss borderline, critical race theory and ballot harvesting during the his campaign announcement.

But, in his statement, Trump called President Luna’s opponents RINOs (just the Republican’s name), a slam at Makki and recently filed Republican candidate Audrey Henson.

“He is an Air Force veteran who puts America first, unlike his opponents in RINO,” Trump said in his statement. “Anna is committed to strong boundaries, serving our Veterans, and making sure the beautiful beaches of Floridas are protected. It’s an important career because it’s ‘key’ to restoring the Chamber.”

While the endorsement from the President in 2020 likely gave Luna the boost he needed to oust Makki, it’s unclear how his latest nod of support will affect voters with the right.

The two haven’t had too many endorsement announcements since launching their respective campaigns; but, that seems to be changing as they start building their campaigns.

Former U.S. HouseNewt spokesman Gingrich announced his support for Luna in July, along with hostradio host and Turning Point USA founder Charlie Kirk, offering support in May.

Recently, on Monday, Makki announced backing from Maggie’s List, which supports fiscally conservative women running for federal and statewide office.

The race, which was one of the hottest contested districts on the 2022 ballot, also has three Democratic supporters Reps. Ben DiamondandMichele Rayner-Goolsby, andEricLynn, a former national security adviser to the former administration of President BarackObamas.

CD 13 is currently a pretty purple district. Beginning in the last year of the presidential election, Republicans, through an extensive voter registration effort that will continue into the 2022 midterms, removed the Democratic advantage in the Pinellas County district from 5.2 percentage points to just 4.6. .

And with redistricting on the horizon, Republicans leading the process may narrow it further by shifting district boundaries northward, though they may be reluctant to be too creative in redistricting after the Florida Supreme Court will fail their last attempt to draw up a map favorable to the GOP.
