Opinion: Trump’s political brand is spreading around the world

In the same way Trump shouts “fake news!” – which he used some success to discredit professional journalists – was used by dictators to crush a free press in their countries, the claim of “violent” elections was carried by those who could not win support of voters as they try to seize power. Since then, resistance to the coup has only intensified, as has the number of lives taken by the ruthless regime. Tatmadaw, as a well -known army, killed more than a thousand civilians. The exile government is calling for a national uprising against the brutal junta. Civil war is a unique possibility. Again, the election results are correct. The losers rejected the outcome. Many of the winning candidates will remain incarcerated. In Brazil, President Jair Bolsonaro, a Trump fan and role model, follows Trump’s preelection step by step. His handling of the pandemic has been damaged – and the alleged corruption in his government and among his children who are politically active is so intense – that Bolsonaro is late to the polls ahead of next year’s presidential election. (His children have denied any wrongdoing.) Bolsonaro claims that electronic voting, which has a long, strong, and highly credible track record in Brazil, will drive elections against him. He threatened to cancel the election and provoking the anger of his supporters, called them to the streets. His attacks on election credibility have already begun formal investigation as potential criminal conduct, and the Brazilian Congress has already denied his push to cancel electronic voting. No matter Bolsonaro is already making his Big Lie: By reducing faith in the electoral system, he is laying the groundwork for rejecting the election outcome (assuming it happened) and hopes that his supporters will reinforce the his stand when he said he was not defeated. Familiar with the sound? In Peru, the country has only endured an extremely close presidential election, playing a left-wing candidate against one from the far right. As the razor-sharp vote count trended with leftist rival Pedro Castillo, right-wing candidate Keiko Fujimori, pulled out the phony fraud card, claiming Castillo’s party was conducting a “strategy” of ” distortion. ”

He could not produce credible evidence, and Castillo eventually claimed the presidency by 44,263 votes. In extreme tension, allegations that an election was stolen have the potential to provoke violence, yet to reveal the possibility that they will eventually succeed in stealing the election. In any of the events that took place, the country dodged the bullet.

Not surprisingly, bogus claims of fraud are rooted in the United States, where it’s possible that some version of Trump’s mantra, if I don’t win, then there is fraud -a demagogue riddle if any – will be more common in some GOP circles. In case anyone has any doubts, he explained that by “shenanigans” he means what happened to Trump in 2020.

What happened to Trump in 2020 was he lost to Biden. What happened in the country was that Trump falsely said he won and his followers, including now the majority of the Republican Party, seemed determined to embrace that lie. The procedure is a deadly bacterial bacillus, one that first appeared in one corner of the world and spread far and wide, with consequences that could prove damning for hundreds of millions of people.

Maybe seeing himself imitated around the world makes the former man proud. For the rest of us, it relives the previously familiar mix of frustration, sadness, anger, and intense anxiety.
