The prospect of Donald Trump returning to the White House is becoming more likely, according to the Smarkets betting exchange.
In the last month on the London-based exchange, the former president’s chance of winning the 2024 US presidential election has improved from 10 per cent to 18 per cent (or from a 9-1 probability to +455).
In that same span, President Joe Biden’s chance of re-election dropped from 24 percent to 20 percent (or from 3-1 to 4-1).
“The speculation around Trump will never go away, and Smarkets’ latest odds suggest we should take seriously the prospect of an election bid again, ”Smarkets’ head of political markets said. Matthew Shaddick in an email. “He is now the clear favorite to be the Republican nominee and is on the verge of overtaking President Biden as the likely winner overall in 2024.”
Vice President Kamala Harris ’chance of winning the election in 2024 is 14 percent (6-1) at Smarkets.
At UK-based sportsbook Betfair, Biden remains a +333 favorite to win the 2024 election, and Trump and Harris are tied at 5-1 second choice.
