Hull, Mass. – Donald Leon Copenheaver died peacefully at home in Hull, Massachusetts, surrounded by his wife and daughters, on August 25, 2021. Donald was born on January 7, 1941, to Samuel Matthew Copenheaver and Barbara Irene ( Folkenroth) Copenhagen. He was born and raised in York, Pennsylvania. He attended Stevens Elementary School as a child and graduated in 1960 from William Penn High School (York High). After graduation Don joined the Navy where he was on the first voyage and was a plank owner of the USS Kitty Hawk around Cape Horn. After leaving the Navy he spent some time in San Francisco, before settling in Oneonta in 1977. He became part of the owner of Oneonta Janitorial Services (1977-1991) with his dear friend, Pete Moore. He retired in 2004 from Corning Inc. Don is a dedicated member of First Presbyterian Church in Oneonta, where he continues to be involved in volunteer work, countless committees and cooking. He was an active member of the Oneonta Kiwanis and Oneonta Masons. But Dad / Don / Benny is more than just the statistics listed above. He is one of the most caring, emotional, quirky, enthusiastic people. He was one of the original “foodies.” He shared that pleasure on earth to eat as good food as possible, taught the importance of expanding taste until it can land. He would not hesitate to sneak into the kitchen after a fantastic meal to personally thank the chef. She can fix a car, fix a sink, but also sit with her daughters and cry with them watching “Little House on the Prairie.” He loves Janis Joplin, Macy Gray, Old Crow Medicine Show, Little Richard and Jimi Hendrix. His favorite song is “The Death of Hank Williams,” a song he never went through without tears. Most importantly, he will always help other people come out, no matter who you are. If you need help, he will help. Time She is a beautiful, unique soul who has found some peace after working incredibly diligently, making this world and everything better for her. Donald is survived by his wife of 50 years, Leslie Trowbridge Brown Copenheaver; two daughters and their family, Ursula Marie Copenheaver (Benjamin Ellis) of Yarmouth, Maine, Kristin Irene Copenheaver-Smith (Shane Michael Copenheaver-Smith) and two beloved grandchildren Lilly Elle and Chloe Ursula Copenheaver-Smith of Hull , Massachusetts; two older sisters, Gloria Ann Shoemaker of Dover, Pennsylvania and Laceda Jeanette Waring (Richard Waring) of York, Pennsylvania. Also loving and missing are his close brothers and sisters, many nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins ​​and so many dear, close friends. A celebration of his life is planned in the spring in Oneonta.
