Donald Trump opened up to Lindsey Graham. Of course.

That time came Thursday for the South Carolina Sen. Lindsey Graham, who has sacrificed more than the past four years to introduce herself to Trump, in the wake of the release of “Peril,” a book about Trump’s last year in office.

The book by authors Bob Woodward and Robert Costa documents repeated – and unsuccessful – Graham – attempts to convince Trump to take over the 2020 election.

Trump, naturally, responded with savage Graham, as well as fellow Republican Senator Mike Lee of Utah.

“I spent almost no time with Senator Mike Lee of Utah, or Lindsey Graham of South Carolina, talking about the 2020 Presidential Election Scam or, as many see, the‘ Crime of the Century, ’” he wrote Trump in a statement sent through his Save America PAC. “Lindsey and Mike should be ashamed of themselves for not fighting the fight necessary to win.”

Trump’s turning heel on Graham shouldn’t surprise anyone – especially Graham himself. After all, the South Carolina senator has had a primary view over the last few years of how nothing and no one is good enough for Trump. All, eventually, abandoned him. He’s just really committed to fighting, uh, good fights.

Being friends with Trump is like being the manager or coach of a professional sports team. You take the job knowing that, at some uncertain time in the future, you will be fired from that job. And so the firing may not be entirely your fault! You can just wind up being the fall guy for a new regime or victimize people (or your players) who are just bored.

That’s the friendship with Trump. It is purely transactional. He will be your “friend” as long as you are helpful to him. If he makes you tired or decides that you have violated some unwritten rule about honesty, he will give it to you. Every. Damn Time

The Point: Loyalty is a one-way street for Trump. Always been. It always will be.
