In his third book about former American President Donald Trump, this time co -written with his Washington Post colleague Robert Costas, Bob Woodward once again lifts the lid on a troubled president.
Excerpts from Peril gathering headlines reveal what Woodward and Costas said happened after the Jan. 6 insurgency in Washington DC.
What went down?
Anyone who watched the news in America at the time of the Jan. 6 uprising could hear reporters talking about ‘The 25th Amendment.’ This means that the sitting President was removed from office because he was deemed unfit to rule.
According to Peril, the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, Gen. Mark Milley, was forced to call his counterpart in China to assure him that Trump would not be allowed to launch a military attack against the country.
This is reported to have happened twice – once in October and again after January 6. For the second time Milley was led to speak with House Speaker Nancy Pelosi who expressed her concerns about an increasingly desperate Trump and released the 25th Amendment, which would place Vice President Mike Pence as Commander in Chief until President-elect Joe Biden was sworn into office on Jan. 20.

Trump’s reaction would be to say in a statement that “if this is true”, Milley had “committed infidelity” and he never thought of attacking China.
The Pentagon will only say that those in Milley’s position regularly talk to counterparts in both Russia and China.
However, one of the surprising elements of American politics after Jan. 6 was how many Republicans refused to tell the public that Trump lost the election, despite numerous recounts.
This is seen as a clear indication of how much power Donald Trump still holds in the Republican party, such as those who refuse to criticize him and govern similarly at the State level such as Florida Governor Ron DeSantis who has been discussed as a favorite for the Republican. nomination for President in 2024.
Who is Bob Woodward?
Bob Woodward is a multiple award-winning American journalist who is widely regarded as one of the best to have seen his name in print. He has worked for The Washington Post since 1971 and in 1972 was praised for his work on the Watergate scandal with fellow Post reporter, Carl Bernstein. Their reporting led to a book called All the President’s Men, which was then filmed with Robert Redford starring Woodward and Dustin Hoffman portraying Bernstein.
He has written extensively on American politics and presidents since then, both as a reporter and associate editor of The Washington Post and as an author or co-author of more than a dozen number one, selling non-fiction books. -think.
Going forward
Donald Trump continues to challenge another run for the Presidency in 2024 but it has not been officially announced.
He still has a strong support among a large portion of the Republican party, with more than half of Republican voters believing Trump’s repeated cuts to claims that the 2020 election was rigged.
The 2022 midterms will be said for both Republicans and Democrats as the latter party holds a razor -sharp majority in the Senate and a vulnerable majority in Congress.
