Imani Oakley Calls Donald Payne Jr. To Take The #Nofossilfuel Money Pledge And Sign On Green Initiatives

Montclair, NJ Imani Oakley, a democracy activist and candidate for Congress in NJs 10 Congressional District, publicly knocked out his opponent for continuing to accept large donations from the fossil fuel industry while claiming to be a pro-environment politico.

Payne Jr. feels the pressure from our campaign and the demands of the DSA to finally be thought of as GND4PS, he said. Meanwhile, he has received more than $ 230,000 in political donations directly from companies that are destroying our climate. He is not allowed to pretend to care about climate law while accepting thousands of fossil fuel money.

Payne Jr. is a five -term incumbent with one of the highest non -voting rates of any representative being the Chairman of the House Subcomm Committee on Railroads, Pipelines, and Hazardous Materials. His campaign disclosures show he received donations from controversial groups such as the Association of Oil Pipelines PAC, ExxonMobil PAC, Enbridge, Phillips 66, and other major polluters.

The Association of Oil Pipelines (AOPL) has long been an advocate of toxic pipeline projects reporting two years ago when Intercept revealed that AOPL had succeeded in getting representatives to smoke a provision that would cruelly criminalize the protest against the pipeline in an industry safety measure. The provision written by the AOPL itself could interfere with pipeline operations punishable by up to 20 years in prison.

Instead of supporting lobbyists, Payne Jr. should support. our communities, Oakley said. I called Payne Jr. to refuse fossil fuel donations and do his job. He should sign the #NoFossilFuelMoney Pledge and the Green New Deal right away.
