Details On Weisselberg Indictment Could Be Bad News For Trump

A detail in the lawsuit against Allen Weisselberg, the longtime head of finance of the Trump Organization, has caught the eye of legal experts who say it may not be good news for former President Donald Trump, according to a New Yorker report published on Wednesday.

Prosecutors at the Manhattan attorney’s office charged both Weisselberg and the Trump Organization in July, alleging a 15-year scheme to trick tax authorities into paying some company executives on the books.

Among the widespread allegations, according to the New Yorker, is one that accused Weisselberg of deleting parts of entries in a ledger called “Donald’s Detailed General Ledger” during the 2016 presidential campaign. The alleged entries was for paying tuition for Weisselberg’s grandchildren.

Until the New Yorker, people familiar with Trump’s legal turmoil noticed one particular element of that allegation: the name of the ledger.

“My jaw literally dropped when I saw that,” Tristan Snell, a former New York assistant attorney who worked on the Trump University case, told the New Yorker.

“If there’s a ledger for him, it evokes the notion that Trump doesn’t know about it – it means there’s a set of numbers prepared for Donald Trump.”

He told the magazine that the public disclosure about the existence of the ledger was a message from prosecutors to Trump: “We have a ledger.”

Weisselberg, who has worked for the Trump family since the 1970s, was removed from his leadership positions at dozens of Trump Organization subsidiary companies in July following his arrest but retains his CFO title. . She and the company both pleaded not guilty to all of the charges and it was Trump dismissed it as a “witch hunt.”

New York Attorney Letitia James indicated this week that more charges are likely to emerge in her office’s lengthy investigation into Trump’s business empire.
