Adam Kinzinger Rips Mike Pence for Bragging About ‘Staying In Touch’ With Trump

Representative Adam Kinzinger took on former Vice President Mike Pence, criticizing the politician for continuing to give up his close ties to former President Donald Trump.

The Illinois Republican retweeted a post highlighting reporting from The New York Times outlining how Pence refused to evade Trump’s pressure to postpone certification of Electoral College votes in January 6. While the Republican lawmaker said Pence deserves credit for that decision, he criticized him for publicly promoting his ongoing engagement with Trump.

Kinzinger referred to a speech Pence gave in Budapest at a top right last month, in which the vice president mentioned his conservative values ​​and highlighted his connection to Trump. Recently, Pence suggested that he has been in regular communication with the former president over the past several months.

“We’ve talked about it probably a dozen times since it was inaugurated [in January], “Pence told the Ruthless podless on Thursday last week. Trump has repeatedly urged Pence to publicly block certification of Biden’s election victory on Jan. 6. At a rally in the Ellipse near the White House during the formal certification process taking place at the Capitol, Trump urged his followers to march towards the legislature and to “fight like hell.”

Hundreds of Trump supporters continued to do as the former president proposed, attacking the Capitol and threatening the lives of Democratic and Republican lawmakers there. Some expressed a desire to “hang Mike Pence” and a large noose was erected by rioters near the Capitol.

“Now, there are those in our party who believe that in my position as presiding officer at the joint session, that I have the authority to reject or reinstate state -certified electoral voters,” Pence said in a June statement to Ronald Reagan Presidential Library in California.

“The Constitution gives the vice president no such authority before the joint session of Congress. And the truth is, there is almost no idea that is more non-American than the notion that any one person can elect the president of America,” said the former vice president. of Trump’s demands on Jan. 6.
