Twitter Inc (NASDAQ: TWTR) and its CEO Jack Dorsey have been named as defendants in a lawsuit filed by former President Donald Trump, seeking to be reinstated on the social media platform.
What Happened: Trump’s complaint, first mentioned on the Verge, was filed in Florida’s South District on Friday.
The 45th President claimed in his complaint that Twitter, which was “coerced by members of the United States Congress,” censored him.
Trump moved for a preliminary mandate stating that Twitter “uses a level of power and control over political discourse in this country that is immeasurable, historically unprecedented, and extremely dangerous to open up democratic debate.”

“Plaintiff’s censorship and initial restraint of speech violates the First Amendment to the United States Constitution and also violates Florida’s newly enacted Social Media Censorship Act,” according to the complaint.
Why It Matters: The Florida law cited in Trump’s complaint was signed by state Governor Ron DeSantis in May.
Florida is appealing a judge’s decision to block that law before it can be enforced in a federal appeals court, NPR reported.
Twitter permanently banned Donald Trump, citing the “risk of further incitement to violence” after a pro-Trump mob stormed the U.S. Capitol building in January.
Trump has reportedly gone “ballistic” after Twitter enforced its ban.
Price Action: On Friday, Twitter shares closed nearly 2.7% higher at $ 61.98 in the regular session.
